Who is eligible to join?:
Any citizen of Trinidad and Tobago who meets the qualifications for a particular post is eligible to join the Coast Guard. Posts include Regular Commissioned Officers, Short Service Commissioned Officers (officers hired for a specific, short-term assignment) and Ratings.Applicants for the post of Regular Commissioned Officer must:

- Be between 18 years and 24 years of age.
- Possess at least five Ordinary (O) Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science Subject.
- Possess at least two Advanced (A) Level subjects (grades A-C) and General Paper.
- Be between 18 and 43 years of age.
- Possess at least five Ordinary (O) Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science Subject.
- Possess at least two Advanced (A) Level subjects (grades A-C) and General Paper.
- Be between 18 and 24 years of age.
- Possess evidence of completion of secondary-level education.
- If applying as a Writer, also possess at least two Ordinary (O) Level subjects including English and Mathematics (CXC, GCE or equivalent).
- If applying as a Technician, also possess at least a National Craftsman's Certificate or its equivalent.
- If applying as a Cook or Steward, also possess evidence of formal training from a recognised institution.
