THE WORLD HAS CHANGED, over the past forty-five (45) years the world has evolved both morally and technically. New challenges never before considered are now a part of day to day life. Some of the global trends which exist today are:

• Terrorism
• The Internet
• Globalisation
• Increased Crime and Violence

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO HAS CHANGED The Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in response to global changes and in an effort to improve our competitiveness, has adopted a longer-term view on development. This has resulted in the National Vision 2020 Plan. The following developmental priorities have been identified as our national development objectives:

• Environment
• Governing Effectively
• Nurturing a caring society
• Developing Innovative People
• Enabling competitive business
• Investing in sound infrastructure

In light of the National Vision 2020 Plan, the Ministry of National Security has identified the following as its primary responsibilities:

• The Administration of Justice
• National Security and Public Safety
• Law Administration and Legal Affairs Governance and Institutional Structures

In support and alignment of the National Vision 2020 Plan and the Ministry of National Security’s primary responsibilities, the Force must also transform to competently manage the new trends and challenges locally, regionally and internationally.
